PCA Afterwards...

It's a day after People's Choice Award 2012 came to a conclusion. I'm still much infuriated at PCA organizer and show runner's obvious snub at Supernatural, winner of both Favorite Network TV Drama and Favorite Scifi/Fantasy last night. So I went on their 2012 PCA Best Moments Best Dressed blog to give them a piece of my mind. This is what I said:

There is NO best moment because PCA organizers and show runners behaved like a bunch of spoiled immature high schoolers by snubbing one of its much deserved MAJOR award winners just because the said winner isn’t in with the “IN” and “IT” crowd!

The WORST moment goes to ignoring its FAVORITE NETWORK DRAMA category entirely. What does this say about an award show that doesn’t even give credit and respect to one of its major category?

This however does not take away the awesome double wins by SUPERNATURAL. No thanks to suits and pencil pushers, SUPERNATURAL, the quintessential “little show that could be” won these accolades because it won the hearts of its loyal fans. We the people chose the show to be our favorite, no slight from PCA and any party associated with it will change that.

Oh and you ask for Best Dressed? Why, it’s none other than Jensen and Jared dressed as Dean and Sam Winchester thanking fans for our support all the way from Vancouver!

Good one Xwacky.

SPN wins another award, and the nets won't show it.

I'm disgusted.

Disgusted indeed! I think it's safe to say that's how everyone of us in the SPN fandom feels right now. We were robbed, the cast and crew were robbed.

The logical part of me is reminding myself that award shows are silly, that I shouldn't pay much heed to it. Yet another part of me wish to see SPN gets acknowledged publicly on the award circuit. The show certainly worth the merit, its actors are more than talented than so many of the actors strolling down that red carpet, up on that stage.

I will not stop voting for SPN. If it's up for nomination(s) again, I still will vote my heart out for it and hopefully its actor(s) competing for the Best Actor category. I want the boys and the show to win big again next year. Eat that PCA and CBS. It would be hilarious for an award show miss announcing its Best Drama and Best Actor awards during its so called ceremony.

Yes I know Im very upset too

well I really don't understand what happened!

clearly is not a genre thing, because the cast of Vampire diaries have been in the PCA's a few times and they were there yesterday, and is not that they are ignoring CW, like I said Vampire diaries were there and besides CBS own 50% of CW,

so I don't understand what happened, Can someone explain me how they totally ignored best TV drama category?

I think everyone of us in the fandom are upset. It's hard to say what happened for sure, but my money is on the bet that CBS and PCA got upset CBS's mainstream legal drama "The Good Wife" got beaten by this little genre show called "Supernatural".

I've had a low regard for CBS's President and CEO Les Moonves since 2004 when he unceremoniously cancelled my then favorite show "The Guardian" because the show's writer/creator David Hollander signed contract with Sony TV instead of renewing his contract with CBS. IMO, Moonves is an egotistical control freak. I wouldn't put it past him and his company for petty reactions to the winner who beat their show(s).

I also would not call "Vampire Diaries" a genre show. IMO, despite the show features supernatural entities and whatnot, it's riding the bandwagon of the vampire romance fad a la "Twilight" saga.

Yes, VD is on CW along with SPN. But we all know how not all CW shows are treated equally by the network.

RIGHT! i'm FURIOUS -- they picked the wrong fandom to mess with. how dare they mistreat the show and everyone associated with it, not to mention fandom - afterall, WHO THE HECK do they think tune in to their crappy awards show anyway?

love your response, esp the last sentence. i gave them the what-for on their FB page and am in the process of leaving feedback to CBS. i also left a comment in EW's "best and worst" moments blog:

IKR?! What they did is so shockingly childish and petty. PCA is dead to me. However I won't stop voting for our show. I hope the show and the boys are up for nominations again next year. I especially want to see Jensen nab the "Favorite Actor" award. I suspect they would continue to ignore our show and the boys, as it's evidently the second time PCA ignored SPN's win. But it would be hilarious to see another major award category disappearing from PCA's award ceremony.

I left my opinion on their FB page too last night. It looks like within 24 hours there are 1900+ comments on their "THANK YOU to all the fans" thread, 99% of them complaining about PCA & CBS's deplorable treatment of Supernatural. Judging by some of the latest comments, it maybe that PCA started deleting some comments today. Just how low can these people go?

Thanks for the link above. Yeah, I went and pasted my opinion over there too.

i never liked the PCAs (thought they were a joke) but when SPN had a stake in it, i could not ignore them then. but yeah, otherwise, that's probably one of the lamest awards shows (i don't watch any, really); the little i saw/heard of last night's made me embarrassed that we're reduced to practically groveling them just to garner exposure for the show and boys that they so seriously deserve and shamefully lack. but watch out - next year (god willing -- i hope we get season eight), fandom will be exponentially that much more determined to see the boys up there, as they rightfully should, collecting their awards for every category that we can get them to remotely fit.

yay, kudos to you for standing up for what is right. and ITA, i've been monitoring the FB site and their comments have not exceeded 2,000 -- which means they must be deleting some.

I know what you mean. I don't even bother to watch Award shows except to see who's wearing what on the red carpet. Yeah, I have a weakness for fineries. ;)

I never gave PCA a passing thought before SPN was in the contention either. This may sound self-serving that all of a sudden it became the Award that I track simply because my show is nominated. Then again, which self-respecting fan doesn't root for his/her show?

It's true that compared to other major awards, PCA is arguably the least respected. But I always thought it's because it is the only major Award that allows common people, i.e. fans, instead of industry insiders to decide who's the winner. In that regard, I don't feel reduced when we fight to give the show and the boys exposure at industry's glitzier events. I feel it's our chance to thank the actors and crews for their hard works at bringing quality entertainment to my living room. So yeah, I'll keep voting for them to win, even if the lame organizers and sponsors neglect to broadcast the victory at their ceremony. The way I see it, the shame is on them, not on us, nor the show, nor the boys. Class act they are not.
Jan. 13th, 2012 07:49 pm (UTC)
i've always scoffed at the PCAs simply because the awards *are* voted for by the common people (i have NOTHING in common with middle america, just based on what's popular on TV, know what i mean? DRECK!).
however, yep, when it comes to SPN, i am protective and will walk on heated coals to garner it the recognition so long overdue.

OMG, i am REALLY, REALLY pissed now! http://mrsr58.livejournal.com/883469.html

Oh.My.God! What.The.Fu*kidy.Fu*k?!?

What a mouthful of CRAP from PCA! Not enough time to fit everything in the ceremony? How come they were able to fit its "Favorite Network TV Drama" in all of the past broadcasting years, and now when the winner is a little genre show, their time runs out?

I love the person's response to PCA. Thanks for the link. I wish more people gets to see this exchange. It clearly shows how bratty, petty, and unprofessional PCA organizers are!
Jan. 13th, 2012 08:27 pm (UTC)
right?! and then to turn around and invite the TVD cast as presenters!
the person in charge of this year's programming needs to be fired!
Jan. 14th, 2012 12:51 am (UTC)
I dunno. I'm not entirely sure this is the result of some incompetent program producer/executive's doing alone. The snub is aimed startlingly direct at Supernatural. I have a sinking suspicion that some network exec's feather was ruffled by Supernatural's Network Drama win here, and that said exec (I wouldn't be surprised it's CBS's very own Mr. Moonves) behaved like a bratty child by pretending the award category (of which his show not only didn't win, but lost to a little cult favorite genre show) never existed in the first place.
Jan. 14th, 2012 12:56 am (UTC)
i realize your ire for mr moonves (and it may be justified); however, he if nothing else, is a businessman and given that, should know the impact airing a win from one of their franchise shows would have on their bottom line. whoever's idea this was, needs to be punished.
BTW, i liked your FB comment. xp
Jan. 14th, 2012 01:28 am (UTC)
IMO he's an egotistical business man. But I've been thinking about this, and here's what I'm trying to think from "their" side, whom ever this "they" might be:

Looks like PCA is structured so that two kinds of shows can win: 1) a show has an overly large viewership that even if less than half of their viewers cast a vote, the tally would be high enough to warrant a win; or 2) a show has a small but steady and devoted fans who would go out of their ways and stop at nothing to vote for their beloved show.

Supernatural certainly is the latter kind. Based on numbers alone, especially the antiquated nielsen's rating figures, our show's viewership is paltry compared to other nominees here. So from a business man's pov, especially one who's honed in to get sponsors' advertisement money, he would not be afraid to neglect a winning show that has less volume of viewers.
Jan. 14th, 2012 03:12 am (UTC)
i think he sees the balance sheets from the $$ brought in thru international market, streaming (itunes, amaazon, netflix, etc) - then you've got the DVD and other licensed merch sales.
also, what on earth did they end up filling OUR timeslot with? nothing that would earn them any more $$.
i would imagine that "they" don't rely exclusively on the nielsens.

if they really wanted to, they could just limit voting to once per ip address.

the whole thing is really stupid -- on one hand, i take it they're trying to pander to a younger age group (i mean, look at the cheesy production, ala dawn ostroff, lol). so if that were the case, why make such a stupid judgement error by eliminating a major category.
Jan. 13th, 2012 03:10 am (UTC)
Well said!
Jan. 13th, 2012 07:07 am (UTC)
Thanks hon. PCA disgraced itself big time by neglecting to even mention its big winner during the actual award. What a joke of a ceremony that was last night!
Jan. 13th, 2012 06:12 pm (UTC)
Awesome note...well written and better than anything I could ever say!

Hope you are doing well!

Oops...forgot to add the "ick" to the "m" in my comment!

Jan. 13th, 2012 07:42 pm (UTC)
Miiiiick! How have you been? Happy New Year darling. ♥

Thanks. PCA and CBS are deplorable in handling this whole thing. Seriously, not even invite the nominee to the event is downright rude. On top of that, they couldn't announce the award and show Jensen and Jared's 40 second acceptance video during the ceremony?! The more I think about it, the more I feel they are like bratty 5 year olds in that when someone they don't like wins something, they just pretend the competition doesn't exist!

Finally ...
... she surfaces! And 3 blogs in 2 days after my departure. I'm taking credit for this one, whether deservedly or not. Hee!

Re: Finally ...
LOL! Don't remind me how much I miss ya. A week and half to go babe! :-*

<------- this is what Dean has to say about the PCA/CBS and their obvious bias towards Supernatural!

This whole thing has me so disgusted with awards shows in general. All they are any more is a 2-3 hour commercial for "their" network/shows and if your show isn't on one of there's then you aren't shit to them. If CBS' show The Good Wife had won there would have been confetti and marching band FFS!

I'm still really pissed about this if you can't tell ;) Have you seen Jensen's vid from this morning: http://www.twitvid.com/KQ0HL
